I'm replacing the current rating algorithm with one that is much simpler and completely transparent.  I'm doing this in part because I'm tired of explaining how the current system works, but also because it's a complex and difficult system to maintain given that our varying level of activity skews the numbers in ways that are hard to predict.  So here are the new rules:

1. When you win a game, your rating goes up 50 points.
2. When you lose a game, your rating goes down 50 points.
3. When you are marked "left early", you lose 100 points (on top of the win/loss adjustment).
4. If your rating is above 500 you lose 5 points per day.  This loss stops after 60 days of inactivity.

This system will still have the same overriding problem as the old one: it is difficult to match new usernames to old ratings and sometimes the system gets it very wrong.  Getting it wrong for one player negatively affects every other rating in the game.  The new system may not result in more accurate ratings but it will, at least, allow people to understand exactly where the numbers come from.

Notes to CTA refs: 

- Ratings are only updated after a game is posted to the CTA site.  Keep that in mind if you want to run back-to-back games without uploading stats between them.  
- The system rewards/deducts points based on the submitted team rosters.  If a player did not play the entire game, it's up to you to decide if he or she should be included in the team roster.

Does this decay only happen on days that the player does not play in a CTA game?

No.  It happens every day unless your last game was 60+ days ago.

I kind of like this better, because I think transparency is a really good thing.

One question - when you say "win" is that = a cap, or actual victory? i.e. does a 3-0 win or 0-3 loss confer the same exact bonus/penalty as a 1-0 win or 0-1 loss?

I believe a win = victory. NOT a cap.

It's per match win. Cap differential would provide more information to go on but I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. Besides, this way doesn't penalize risk-taking; if you're behind 0-1 you can go for broke and not worry about losing even more ratings points.

Odo or someone in the dev team please look at my rating, its 868 on the site but in game im rated in the 1000's
My rating hasn't moved at all since the new change.
